Avatar 3D (2009)
Ég fór á Avatar á miðvikudaginn. Eftir að hafa séð trailerinn fyrir myndina í bíó fyrir löngu, heillaðist ég ekki. Fannst þetta hálft tæp hugmynd og 3D hafði ekki bætt kvikmyndaupplifun mína (hafði séð áður Journey to the Center of the Earth, My Bloody Valentine og Fly Me to the Moon). Ég var þetta vegna mjög skeptískur á að þetta væri eitthvað sem mig langaði að sjá í bíó, upp á þrívíddina að gera.
Svo heyrði ég bara góða hluti um myndina, frá öllum. Allir lofuðu útlitið og þegar ég innti þá eftir svörum um innihaldið var það sagt gott. Spennan byrjaði að magnast upp hjá mér smám saman og þegar ég sat í stöppuðum salnum fann ég fyrir tilfinningu sem gerði síðast vart við sig þann 23. júlí 2008. Tilfinningin var eins og ég væri krakki í dótabúð, þar sem dótið væri gert úr nammi! Rosalegur spenningur.
Svo byrjaði myndin.
Augnaverkurinn gerði vart við sig strax á annarri mínútu. “Nei, fjandinn” hugsaði ég, “átti þetta ekki að vera fullkomin þrívídd?” En verkurinn fór og upp frá því gat ég notið einnar stórkostlegustu myndar sem gerð hefur verið. Myndin er svo flott. Þrívíddin svo vel unnin, umhverfið svo fullkomið, hugmyndin svo ágæt en handritið svo lélegt.
Hugmyndin að myndinni er góð. Að búa til mannhermu (e. Avatar) til einhverra hluta. Að búa til Avatar til verka eins og er gert í myndinni er hreint út sagt heimskulegt og tilgangslaust. Þetta er illa útfærð hugmynd. James Cameron er leikstjóri bakvið stórmyndirnar The Terminator, Titanic og The Abbyss en mér er sama. Terminator eru leiðinlegar myndir og Abyss sömuleiðis. Þetta er ekki einn af mínum uppáhalds mönnum.
Ég veit varla hvað annað ég á að segja. Það er aðeins tvennt sem stendur uppúr eftir að hafa horft á myndina. Annars vegar hve fullkomið útlitið er og hins vegar hve veik sagan er, sem dregur myndina niður. Eða kannski maður ætti að miða við hve góð sagan er, og svo hversu mikið formið hífir hana upp?
Það þýðir ekki að gefa Avatar 10, einungis vegna þess að hún er flott eða hún er með góða þrívídd. Hvað með þegar myndin kemur út á DVD? Eða hvað ef hún hefði upphaflega aldrei verið í 3D?
Þess vegna gef ég Avatar sjöu. Sagan er léleg og karakterar ótrúverðugir og illa skapaðir. Myndin er ekki leiðinleg, þannig séð. Hún er áhugaverð og njótanleg en hún er bara svo venjuleg.
Avatar fengi sex í einkunn hjá mér en tæknin hækkar hana upp um einn. Myndin á ekki skilið áttu, níu eða tíu, BARA vegna þess að hún er flott. Það er ekkert í myndinni sem við höfum ekki séð áður eða er byltingakennt.
