Ég er búinn að vera að hugsa um þetta undanfarna daga. Mikið rosalega hljóta 365 Ljósvakamiðlar að naga sig í handabökin eftir að Síminn byrjaði með Skjáinn. 365 veðjuðu á svo rangan hest þegar þeir fóru út í Digital Ísland (af hverju ekki „Stafrænt Ísland“?).
Útsendingin hjá 365 er ekki næstum því jafn skýr og hjá Símanum, enda ekki við öðru að búast þegar þú tekur eitthvað í gegnum loftnet eða vír alla leið. Þegar einhver er kominn með 32″ háskerpusjónvarp vill hann fá hlutina skýra; af hverju er maður þá annars að kaupa sér rándýrt sjónvarp?
Digital Ísland býður ekki upp á VOD þjónustu. VOD er sniðugt, og myndi ég eflaust nota það ef ég væri miðaldra og kynni ekki mikið á tölvur. Einnig ef þetta væri ekki svona fáránlega dýrt – ný mynd er 600 krónur. Rökin fyrir því segja þeir vera þjónustuna; að þú þurfir ekki að skila myndinni eða fara út úr húsi. Eins og ég sé þetta er þægilegra að fara út í sjoppu og leigja sér mynd. Þar ræður þú hvaða hljóðrás þú notar, þ.e. stereo eða Dolby Digital 5.1. Þú ræður hvort þú hafir texta – þá hvaða tungumál á textanum – eða hvort viljir ekki texta. Bara valmyndina með öllu aukaefninu og þannig, í raun allan pakkann. Þú færð líka hulstrið, með myndum og texta og þess háttar sem er mikilvægt atriði fyrir mig (enda ástæða fyrir geisladiskasafni mínu).
Ef þú ætlar líka að horfa á eitthvað í háskerpu hjá Símanum þarftu ekki annan afruglara, enda er háskerpan send í gegnum ADSL línuna og það er eitthvað sem Síminn sendir allt sitt efni út í gegnum.
Ég held samt að Síminn bjóði ekki upp háskerpuútsendingar enn, en 365 býður upp á þrjár stöðvar í háskerpu. Að vísu ekki eitthvað sem ég myndi horfa á til annars en að horfa á háskerpuna! 
Fótbolti og dýralíf heilla mig ekki.
Eins las ég að Sky sjónvarpsstöðin notaði þessa tækni mjög mikið. Þeir bjóða upp á að maður kjósi í gegnum sjónvarpið og maður getur ákveðið hvers konar fréttir maður vill sjá og hvers konar fréttir maður vill ekki sjá. Í rauninni sérhæfðar fréttir fyrir hvern og einn.
Það er þó eflaust langt í land með að sjónvarpsstöðvarnar fari að nota þessa tækni hérna á litla Íslandi.
